Jacksonian and Antebellum Age

I took on this editorial project after Peter Mancall issued a call for editors for a new ABC-Clio series. I wanted to expose students to current scholarship on topics central to the Jacksonian and antebellum periods. Thankfully, several scholars graciously agreed to write the essays that comprise the collection. The volume also includes a set of primary documents for students’ use.

Table of contents:

Introduction: Mark R. Cheathem
African American Revolutionaries: Mark R. Cheathem
Presidential Politics and Social Scandal: Matthew S. Warshauer
Children and Culture: Gail S. Murray
The Jacksonian Frontier: Elaine Naylor
Women, Taverns, and Travel: Kirsten E. Wood
Religious Sects and Social Reform: David Voelker
New England Industry and Workers: Michael and Mary Beth Connolly
Native American Politics and Removal: Michael P. Morris
Slave Traders: Steven Deyle

Praise for Jacksonian and Antebellum Age:

“Jacksonian And Antebellum Age is an impressive and recommended addition to school and community library American History reference collections in general.” Midwest Book Review
