This video has always been a favorite of mine. Coincidentally, I am moderating a panel session at the annual meeting of the American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) this weekend that is titled “Aren’t We Forgetting Something? The War of 1812 Bicentennial in the South.” It focuses on efforts in Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee to commemorate the Bicentennial while being totally overshadowed by the larger and more popular Civil War Sesquicentennial. I hope we aren’t simply preaching to the choir.

Thanks for your comment.
The War of 1812 will always be overshadowed, I think. There just isn’t the romanticism that the CW offers.
