After a much longer time than I wanted or expected, my newest book is scheduled to come out later this year.
Entitled Who Is James K. Polk? The Presidential Election of 1844, it is part of the University Press of Kansas’ American Presidential Elections series. It includes coverage of all five presidential candidates in 1844—Polk, Whig candidate Henry Clay, President John Tyler, Liberty Party nominee James G. Birney, and Mormon prophet Joseph Smith. Much like The Coming of Democracy, cultural politics plays a large role in my analysis of the 1844 campaign.
I’ll post more about Who Is James K. Polk? as the publication date gets closer.
Sounds likely to be a very good and important book.
I am very much looking forward to reading this book. The 1844 election was the most interesting and significant one in the history of the west.
Thanks for your comment. I obviously agree on its significance! 🙂
Congratulations. This is great news. After a three-year lull of new publications, I was beginning to wonder if the series was discontinued. I look forward to your contribution in this excellent series.
I know there are manuscripts in the pipeline, bu they probably hit the same snag I did with COVID. That wasn’t my only delay, but it was a major contributor.
